5 new-built eco-cabins are carefully inserted into an ancient woodland in Kent.
The studio worked on a sensible response to the delicate setting of a protected woodland, in an area of outstanding beauty, elevating all buildings and structures off the ground, and keeping any disturbances to the flora & fauna to a minimum.
The proposal makes use of reduced formal language, in reference to the archetypal typology of a wood cabin, and takes inspiration from the vernacular architecture of the area in the form of the traditional Kentish oasts.
With sustainability as a central guiding principle, the choice of materials is consciously focused on locally sourced, ecological resources, and a low-tech construction approach aiming at achieving the highest possible energy efficiency.
