SHAPES is a former printing factory nestled in the heart of East London’s creative hub, Hackney Wick. It is now a multi-purpose creative arts and event space which hosts concerts, dj-sets, exhibitions and other cultural and music events.
We were approached by the client with the brief to develop an installation which would create a captivating alternative experience within the SHAPES space, without competing with the already existing stage area, and aiming at building an identifiable brand.
Influenced by it’s name, we developed six portable wall elements, each bearing one letter of SHAPES, which can be arranged in numerous ways, modifying and re-configuring the warehouse space into different “shapes”, while giving focus on the brand identity. All letters can be lowered and convert into playful seating opportunities for visitors, and at the same time reveal back-lit letters on the wall elements.
In order to save space, they are set up to hide a currently ”dead space” , converted into a series of adaptable rooms, which can be customized by local designers/artists on a regular basis. The sizes of the rooms will be flexible depending on the current event, allowing them to host dj-sets, exhibitions, or even private parties, to name a few.
